Case Study | Logo Design
Client Name: Sal Digs MT
Project Scope: Logo Design, Product Design
Key Words: Rustic, Authentic, Women-Owned, Rock-Hound, Metalsmith
The life of a rockhound was weaved into Sally’s early life, which has fueled a life-long passion for story-telling and exploring out in the wilderness. Within the last decade, Sally has immersed herself back into this lifestyle and pursued building her lapidary and rockhounding business, specializing in showcasing the wonders of Montana Agates. History, passion, and hard work exude through the material she cuts and the stones she produces.
Sally came to me with a desire to amplify her brand and build out an official logo for Sal Digs MT. She was able to share her vision with me, impressing the need to have her logo connect with her customers and target audience of metalsmiths and women adventurers alike.
“I want the logo to look good on products so that my customers want to promote my brand with merchandise, such as shirts and stickers.”
The resulting logo takes Western vintage and National Park Signage inspiration into an illustration-based design. Sally, in her true rockhounding attire, points towards a high alpine landscape with her pup, Scepter in tow. Adventure awaits, and the illustration demonstrates her mission to step forward with a sure foot.
A unique challenge to this project was translating Sally’s new logo design into a custom lapidary template for her business. This tool allows her to create stone cuts that are her signature and unique to the Sal Digs MT business. Translating the 2D outline to a three-dimensional template led to a product that she can use, but also market to fellow collaborators and artists.
